Mildred Margaret Strauch was born October 16, 1927, in Akron Township/Tuscola County, Michigan to Henry and Elizabeth (Bachmann) Rueger. She was baptized November 13, 1927 at St. Johannes Ev. Lutheran Church by Pastor Schmelzer.
She was confirmed on April 6, 1941 at Mt. Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, Detroit, Michigan by Pastor Kenneth Vertz. Her memory verse was Matthew 6:33 “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
After her father’s death in 1946, she graduated from Detroit Southeastern High School and her family moved to Sebewaing, MI where she was a dental assistant for Dr. Harold Burke until her marriage to Harold Arthur Strauch on May 20th, 1955 at New Salem Ev. Lutheran Church by Pastor Carl Miller. God gave them 41 years of marriage and blessed them with two sons and a daughter, Dennis, Ronald, and Carol.
Mildred busied herself with the tasks of making a home for her family. She and Harold were both active members at Covenant Lutheran Church in Detroit, MI after their marriage.
In 1965 the move was made to Livonia and in September 1968 they became members of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church where Winfred Koelpin was the pastor. The children attend Christian day School at St. Paul’s and she was very active in the children’s activities there. Mildred was a member of St. Paul’s Ladies Aid, Chairman of Altar Guild for many years, and AAL Secretary for St. Paul’s and Lola Park.
God blessed Mildred with many talents to fulfill her role as devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook, loved to bake pies, and decorate cakes for family events. She also liked to sew, crochet, and garden.
She loved babysitting and spending time with her precious grandchildren. She also had a special place in her heart for Henselin family.
Mildred was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, her brothers, Walter and Harold Rueger, and nephew, Wayne Rueger.
Mildred is survived by her children Dennis (Joanne), Ronald (Linda), and Carol, her grandchildren Kathryn (Ryan) Morales, Kevin (fiancé Juliana Awrey), Christopher (Paige) and Jessica, sister-in-laws Shirley and Betty Rueger, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation for Mildred will take place on Sunday October 6th from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service on Monday October 7th at 11am (in-state at 10am) at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 17810 Farmington Road, Livonia, MI 48152.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 17810 Farmington Road, Livonia, MI 48152.
