October 16, 1927October 4, 2019

Mildred Margaret Strauch was born October 16, 1927, in Akron Township/Tuscola County, Michigan to Henry and Elizabeth (Bachmann) Rueger. She was baptized November 13, 1927 at St. Johannes Ev. Lutheran Church by Pastor Schmelzer.

She was confirmed on April 6, 1941 at Mt. Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, Detroit, Michigan by Pastor Kenneth Vertz. Her memory verse was Matthew 6:33 “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

After her father’s death in 1946, she graduated from Detroit Southeastern High School and her family moved to Sebewaing, MI where she was a dental assistant for Dr. Harold Burke until her marriage to Harold Arthur Strauch on May 20th, 1955 at New Salem Ev. Lutheran Church by Pastor Carl Miller. God gave them 41 years of marriage and blessed them with two sons and a daughter, Dennis, Ronald, and Carol.

Mildred busied herself with the tasks of making a home for her family. She and Harold were both active members at Covenant Lutheran Church in Detroit, MI after their marriage.

In 1965 the move was made to Livonia and in September 1968 they became members of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church where Winfred Koelpin was the pastor. The children attend Christian day School at St. Paul’s and she was very active in the children’s activities there. Mildred was a member of St. Paul’s Ladies Aid, Chairman of Altar Guild for many years, and AAL Secretary for St. Paul’s and Lola Park.

God blessed Mildred with many talents to fulfill her role as devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook, loved to bake pies, and decorate cakes for family events. She also liked to sew, crochet, and garden.

She loved babysitting and spending time with her precious grandchildren. She also had a special place in her heart for Henselin family.

Mildred was an amazing woman. She was a life long friend of my family and maid of honor at my parents wedding in November of 1950. Just a couple of years ago when she and Carol were doing some cleaning out, she came across my birth announcement and some other memorabilia and sent them to me - what a joy for me to have some of those articles after so many years and how incredibly thoughtful of her to send them. I had joked to her in my earlier Christmas card about thinking of retiring and she came back with "at 63 you can retire now!" God Bless and Keep Mildred and all she held dear.

I remember Mildred from the Strauch Reunions in Sebewaing (She married my Mom's 2nd cousin). She was always so nice and happy to see everyone. Even though I was a child, she always wanted to know what was happening in my life. She was very sweet. My condolences to her family.
