Nancy Maude Young

Nancy Maude Young was born on August 26, 1928, in Lansing, Michigan, to E. Duane and Dolly E. Torrance. She was one of five children. Nancy passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026 in Northville, Michigan at the age of 98. She was under the gentle care of her family and assisted by CareTenders Hospice.

Nancy was the beloved wife of the late William E. Young who passed before her in 1985. Together they created a loving family and five generations were blessed enough to be able to enjoy her as the matriarch. She was the loving mother of Stephanie (Hal) Mulligan, Shelley Young, and William (Susan) Young, the late Thomas Young, and the late Kay Lauer.

Proud grandmother of Kristin (Chuck) Babcock, Sara Knoff, Ingrid Ziegler, Erich Knoff, Paul (Susan) Young, and Taylor Young.

Great-grandmother of Joe (Ashley) Babcock, Haley Babcock, Mariah Ziegler and Samuel Young.

Great-great-grandmother of Kylie Babcock and Caleb Babcock.

Nancy had an amazing work ethic. She retired at 65, after 40 years as the Office Manager of the Westland K-Mart. Following her official retirement, she continued working part-time in the office at K-Mart until her second retirement at 82 years old. An accomplishment that she was very leery of obtaining, was learning how to operate and use a computer, in her capacity as office manager. K-Mart had finally joined the computer age. Not only did she become accomplished in operating the computer, she was sent to various other K-Mart stores to teach their office managers.

She was very active and independent until well into her 90’s. Nancy drove until the age 94, driving herself to an exercise class at the Westland Senior Center, 3 days a week.

For 27 years she enjoyed her winter vacation trip to Florida with her best friend Betty Dudgeon. Oh, the stories they told when they returned, we believe they may have left out a few of their escapades.

She will be deeply missed by so many, family and friends alike.

Nancy will be laid to rest by her husband’s side in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West Cemetery, Westland, Michigan.
