Born on March 27, 1937, in Servia, Greece, Odisseys was the son of Elisavet and Dimitrios Zigouris. As a young man, he left Greece and spent several years serving in the army and living in Germany before eventually emigrating to Windsor, Ontario. It was there that he met the love of his life, Athanasia, and eventually settled in Detroit, MI, where they began their marriage and partnership that would last for 54 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, shared memories, and a deep commitment to one another, creating a lasting foundation for their family.
Odisseys (fondly referred to as Otto and Odi) and Athanasia built a life centered around family, hard work, and the traditions they carried with them from Greece. Music was a special part of his life and a way for him to celebrate his Greek heritage. Odisseys enjoyed playing the bouzouki and guitar and was the guitarist for The Olympians, a beloved Greek-rooted band that performed at weddings, celebrations, and special occasions throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Through his music, he shared his love of Greek culture with others and brought joy to countless gatherings and celebrations.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Athanasia; his children, Elizabeth (David), Harriet (Kit), and James (Anna); his grandchildren, Athanasia, Lukas, Alexandra, Lily, Odysseas, and Anastasia Panayiota; and his brother, Niko. He will be lovingly remembered by his family, who will cherish the memories they made together and the lasting impact he had on their lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dimitrios and Elisavet Zigouris, and his brothers, Apostolis and Alekos Zigouris.
