Dick was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving in an air wing aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Coral Sea. Following his naval service he worked as a pipefitter for Union 636 managing the mechanical contractors for most of the original K-Mart stores in Michigan and Ohio as well as many of the Southfield and I-275 office buildings.
An avid sailor, he competed in six Mackinac Races and many other sailboat races on Lake St, Clair and Lake Erie.
Dick was very active in the community. He served as a 32º Mason and was a past president of the Detroit Molson Shrine of the Oriental Band.
Dick’s biggest joy in his life was his family. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Once his grandchildren were born they became his main focus. He often could be found singing to them, taking them to the airport to watch the planes, and joking around with them. Even as his health declined his dedication never ended, attending every game and activity of theirs he could. Dick was most proud of the grandchildren’s accomplishments and loved their individual spirits.
Dick was the loving husband of Nancy. Beloved father of Rick (Diana) and the late Susan. Cherished grandfather of Rick, Brad and Brittany. Dear brother of Beth (Fred) Moulder. He is preceded in death by 5 siblings and survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday June 17, 2012 from 4-9pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd (east of Newburgh and I-275) in Livonia. Richard’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service on Monday June 18, 2012 at 10 am at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, Michigan.
