Born January 25, 1954 in Grosse Pointe, MI to the late Robert and Gertrude, Richard was raised by his father and step-mother Merrie (Richard) Benoit. He was the beloved husband of Susan DeCooman, dear step-father of Tina Petrovich and the late Neil Goodall, step-grandfather of Sean and Quinn Petrovich, brother of Russell (Janice) DeCooman, Robert (Jocelyn) DeCooman, and Laura (Marcos) Lerma, and cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his father and his grandparents Richard and Julia DeCooman and Delvin and Velma Hearin. A long time member of the Courtland Racquet Club, Richard enjoyed racquetball and was also a talented saxophone player and one time member of the Detroit All City High School Band. Richard worked for the Detroit News from 1972 - 1989 and most recently worked at IBM.
