Born on July 4, 1933, in Freemont, Pennsylvania, Richard lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a deep love for sports and community.
Richard proudly served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for eight years, including a two-year station in Germany. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a financial analyst with Ford Motor Company, where he worked diligently until retiring at the age of 58. After retirement, he relocated to Florida to care for his mother, a testament to the strength of his family values.
In the summer of 1997, Richard married Olga, aboard a cruise ship after meeting at their local bowling alley—where Richard played on the men’s league and Olga on the women’s. Their shared love for bowling and laughter turned into a beautiful partnership that spanned nearly three decades.
Richard was a devoted father to his three children—Sharon, Dick, and Mike and his step-children Mark Zerbst and Jeffrey Zerbst—and a proud grandfather to Jeter, Benny, Kelie and Samantha.
His family was the center of his world, and his warm smile, patient wisdom, and generous spirit will live on in the lives he touched.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Richard was particularly skilled at both golf and bowling, and he was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Whether on the lanes, on the course, or in his favorite chair watching a game, Richard brought joy and heart to everything he did—especially when cheering for his beloved Tigers, right up to his final days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Leona Schultz, and his brother, Robert Schultz.
Richard’s life was a quiet example of loyalty, humility, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152.
