Rita J. Hedman, 89, of Livonia, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021. Rita was born on July 11, 1931 in Alexandria, South Dakota, the youngest of five children born to George and Nora Mowry. After high school graduation she learned to be an X-ray Technician and relocated first to Mitchell, South Dakota and later to Evanston, Illinois. It was in Evanston that she met her future husband, Curtis H. Hedman. They married on August 31, 1957. Her husband's work took the family to Maryland, and in 1969 to Detroit. They raised their family of four boys in Livonia. Rita kept beautiful flower gardens and was known for her cooking excellence. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother. Family was "everything" to Rita.
Mrs. Hedman is survived by her sons, Steve (Barbara), Howard, Brian (Ellen), and Charles (Pamela); grandchildren, Olivia, Eric, Christian, Casey. Rita was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was pre-deceased by her siblings, Robert Mowry, Virginia Boling, Phyllis Peters, and George Mowry.
Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Friday - April 9, 2021 at St. Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh Rd, Livonia, MI 48154. A procession to Glen Eden Cemetery for burial will immediately follow Mass.
