Robert H. Kurnick, born December 16, 1932, lived a life shaped by quiet devotion, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence was defined less by grand gestures than by steady reliability and deep care.
He was married to his beloved wife, Connie, for 67 years. Connie predeceased him after a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer’s. Throughout those years, Robert remained by her side with extraordinary patience and tenderness, providing comfort, dignity, and constant companionship as the illness progressed. His care for her was a living expression of the vows they shared and of the love that sustained their marriage for nearly seven decades.
Robert worked hard his entire life. He believed that you get out of life what you put into it, and he lived that principle every day. More importantly, he passed it on. He instilled in all four of his children a strong work ethic grounded in integrity and self-reliance—values that have shaped their lives and that they, in turn, have carried forward. That legacy of effort, honesty, and independence will continue through the generations that follow him.
He is survived by his four children: Laura Conner; Janet (Ronald) Ziegler; Robert, Jr.; and John (Maria). He is also survived by seven grandchildren — Jessica (Tom) Collin, Austin (Kaitlin) Kurnick, Bradley Kurnick, Claire Kurnick, Benjamin Kurnick, Annie Kurnick, and Chase Kurnick —and by four great-grandchildren, Jacob Collin, Dylan Collin, Bailey Kurnick, and Adeline Sue Kurnick, due to arrive in mid-November.
The family is forever grateful to Miranda Slalom and Lenarda (Tina) Crain for their loving care of both Robert and Connie over the last seven years. Their kindness, dedication, and compassion brought comfort and support during a long and challenging chapter, and the family holds them in lasting appreciation.
Arrangements are being handled by Harry J. Will Funeral Homes in Livonia, Michigan. Services and inurnment will be private at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, held for family only.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Michigan Chapter, 25200 Telegraph Road, Suite 100, Southfield, MI 48033, or online at alz.org/gmc.
Robert’s life was measured in the strength of the family he built and the values he lived. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, hard work, and quiet integrity that will continue in the lives of those who loved him and in the way they care for one another.
