Today we honor Rose Antonia (Antonina) Skynar, last survivor of the Agata Perlowska and Antoni Wolan family of 12 children: Victoria (Kuyava), Walter, Leona (Czaikowski), Edward, Helen (Sajewicz), Julia (Kuyava), Henry (age 3), Florence (Hnizdor), Emily (Robertson), Richard, and Conrad; who had loving parents, immigrants from Strzyżów, Poland near Rzeszów.
Rose loved Walter Frank Skynar (Skrzyniarz), her husband of nearly 72 years, her children: Larry, Constance (Dion/Petter), Gregory, Mark and Mary (Cantor), their spouses: Kathie (Attard), Matthew (Petter), Kim (Ladzinski), Scott (Cantor) and Christine (Moylan); her grandchildren: Thomas, Joseph, Justin (Dion), Brandon (Dion), Stephanie Petter, Hilary Petter, Zachary, Courtney, Andrew (Cantor), Marie (Cantor), Anthony (Wright), Rebecca (Wright), Ryan, Eric, Madeline and Isabella; her great grandchildren: Graydon (Dion), Tegan (Dion), Cole and James; and her great, great grandchild, Logan Yerger.
In her adult years, Rose was a practicing Catholic, hairdresser, dancer, gardener, excellent cook, seamstress, Girl Scout leader, rosary maker (for 3rd World), Altar Society volunteer (Saint Valentine Parish), bowler, shopper, decorator, pinochle player, golfer, red nailed handler of Wally, comedienne, smiler, lover of birds, people and McDonald's sausage McMuffins.
Throughout her two year stay at Marywood Nursing Care Center, she taught many three major lessons for a happy life: If you smile, you make friends. My "hands" don't get me what I want (as a nursing home resident) so I must take what I get. If you love me, feed my birds...
In lieu of flowers, give roses to someone you love and/or bring a single rose to the celebration of Rose's life on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Saint Aidan's Church, 17500 Farmington Road, Livonia, MI 48152, at 9:30 am Mass with Eulogy (9:00 In State). Immediately after, join Rose as she is escorted to Saint Hedwig's Cemetery, 23755 Military Road, Dearborn Heights, MI 48127, where she will be blessed and later buried next to her best friends, Martha and Stanley Skinner (Wally's older brother) near the statue of Saint Casimer. All are welcome.
Make donations in honor of the Rose, payable to the unemployed, mentally ill, homeless, sick, those "different" and/or having special needs, the lonely and/or the elderly (Marywood Nursing Center, 36975 Five Mile RD, Livonia, MI 48514).
