Roy met the love of his life, Viola, through mutual friends, and the two were married on April 20, 1950. Together they shared many wonderful years and raised their family. Viola preceded him in death on September 15, 2015.
Roy proudly served his country in the United States military. Shortly after graduating from high school, he was drafted into the United States Navy in 1945. He was honorably discharged several months later as the military downsized at the end of World War II. He later served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, earning the National Defense Service Medal.
Roy spent much of his working life as a computer programmer for Penn Central Railroad in New York. He eventually returned to Michigan, where he continued his career with Shatter Proof Glass until his retirement. Retirement did not slow Roy down, however. He began a second career at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, where he worked for many years checking tickets and welcoming and assisting guests. He enjoyed meeting people and being part of the community there.
Roy was most recently a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. He and his family were longtime members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dearborn, where he raised his family.
In his leisure time, Roy especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson, David. He also loved playing cards with friends, reading, and reminiscing about the many years he spent participating in bowling leagues. His friendships, family memories, and simple pleasures brought him much happiness throughout his life.
Roy will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Karen (Larry) Hudson; grandson, David T. Hudson; and many friends and loved ones who were fortunate to know him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Viola, and his parents, Wence and Edna (Werth) Nemecheck.
Roy leaves behind a legacy of love for his family, dedication to his country and his work, and countless memories that will be cherished by those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 pm on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Roy’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:30 am until the time of the service at 12:00 pm. A burial will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.
