Livonia, MI—Scott Thomas Ehrstin, 61, died in his sleep early in the morning of December 11 of a sudden illness.
Scott was born on February 24, 1957 in Detroit, MI, the son of Gloria and Gene Ehrstin. He graduated from Livonia Bentley High School in 1975. He attended Eastern Michigan University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. Scott worked for years as a sporting goods representative, doing so well for himself that he was able to retire at a relatively young age.
Scott was the funniest man in the room. To be around him was to laugh, and to laugh hard. He was a thrower of parties, including an annual Fourth of July bash with a stunning fireworks display. He was a connoiseur of the well-made shot, dispensing them over the years by the thousands from his trusty “paddle.” To be at a Scott Affair was to drink and to laugh and to be wonderfully among friends. And friends Scott had, by the dozens. He was loyal and caring and capable of sage advice. He was loved by adults and children alike. He was an avid swimmer, putting in a mile a day in his beloved Big Bear Lake, even when the water was so cold no one would even put a foot in. He played Pickleball, euchre, cribbage, catch. He had the most amazing eye-hand coordination and the softest hands. No grounder ever got past him, no football was ever dropped. He gave generously to charities, especially PETA. He loved being outside. He was tough. He was meticulous. He was fast.
Scott is survived by his brother, Rick Ehrstin, his sister-in-law, Rebecca Harris, and friends everywhere.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 15th from 11am-3:30pm followed by a Celebration of Scott’s Life at 3:30pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home in Livonia, and a reception from 5pm-7pm at John Cowley and Sons Irish Pub. All are welcome.
