Stella Kallil

Born on March 25, 1928, in Sanford, Maine, Stella was the cherished daughter of Assad and Mary Gusses. She was a woman of deep faith, unwavering devotion, and boundless love for her family, friends and community.

Stella and her beloved husband Don, were both founding members of St. Mary’s Orthodox Basilica. She served her church with dedication and humility. Although serving the church together with her husband meant the world to her, she also loved assisting the ladies of the church with the church bulletin and devoting time to the children’s bible camp. Her commitment to her faith and church community was a cornerstone of her life.

Stella was loved and adored by all those who had the honor of knowing her. Above all else, she treasured time spent with those she loved. She adored her family and friends and found her greatest joy in gathering everyone together. Her warmth, kindness, fun-loving and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved children: Kim Pagels; Andrea (Daniel) Kanaan; Donald (Jennifer) Kallil; and Robert (Lisa) Kallil. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Alex (Elena), Andrea, Dan (Leah), Nick (Colleen), Joe (Roberta), Amanda (John), Paul (Kamel), Jeff (Lauren), Elizabeth (Anees), Olivia (Rammi), Nina, Laura (Brandon), and Emily (Dylan), and a devoted great-grandmother to 26 great-grandchildren and a loving eldest sister to Carol, George (Sue) and Laura.

In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by her beloved husband and soulmate, Don, her son-in-law, Tom, her great grandchild, baby Cedar and her brother, Mike.

Stella’s legacy of service, faith, and love will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
