

He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Stephanie. He is also survived by his daughter, Stacy Pope (Michael), and his grandchildren, Lynzie, Brittney, and Brooke. Steve is further survived by his siblings, Sherry, Pam, and Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Betty Jo, and his sister, Angie.
Steve proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army and dedicated much of his professional life to public service. He worked in Engineering at the Detroit VA Medical Center from 1991 until 2026, approaching 48 years of combined service with the Federal Government, including his military service. He truly loved his work and the people he worked with.
A man who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, Steve loved the outdoors, especially bicycling through local metroparks and hiking. He also had a passion for photography and loved capturing moments in nature. Steve enjoyed spending time with others and was known for being warm, friendly, and people-oriented. He loved going to the movies and spending weekends grilling for family and friends.
Steve had a deep love for animals and shared his home over the years with many beloved pets, including his German Shepherds, Rosco and Oscar, and his cats Fluffy, Smoky, Tigger, Marlee, Jade, and Katie.
He was especially proud of earning his master’s degree from Sacred Heart Seminary in 2022, a meaningful personal accomplishment later in life.
Visitation will be held at Harry J. Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, on April 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Steve will lie in state at St. Gerald Catholic Church, 21300 Farmington Road, Farmington, Michigan 48336, on April 7, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.
