Velio Martino

Velio proudly served in the United States Army and is a WW II Veteran. Following his military service, he built a successful career as part owner of Turf Supplies, a wholesale garden supply company established in 1955. Through hard work, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, he helped grow the business until his retirement in 1989.

On July 28,1956, Velio married the love of his life, Geraldine (Laskowski). Their story began with a chance meeting at a gas station, a simple encounter that blossomed into a beautiful marriage spanning seven decades. Together they built a loving home centered on family and enduring devotion.

Velio was a faithful parishioner of St. Colette Church in Livonia. He was known for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and remarkable ability to fix just about anything—often with determination and a roll of duct tape. He enjoyed reading, working on his business, and staying busy with projects.

Velio loved telling wonderful stories, especially relating to the old country. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Velio treasured the memories created during family vacations to Oscoda, Michigan, trips back to his beloved Italy, and travels throughout the United States. Whether at home or on the road, he found his greatest happiness surrounded by those he loved.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Geraldine Martino; his children, Frank (Roy) Martino, Dave (Mary) Martino, Julie (Bob) Papandrea, and Laurie (Brian) Mamo; He was known as Papa by his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Madison, Cameron, Gina (Trevor), Tony, Erik, Evan, (Rae), Erica, Ryan (Kennedy), and Carson; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Hayden, Tate, Cade, Crue, and Cohen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francesco and Carolina (Carlomusto) Martino; his brother, Gino Martino; his sister, Lydia Simari; and his lifelong best friend of 69 years, Mike "Goomba" Simeone.

Velio will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his tireless work ethic, and the warmth he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the countless memories shared by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Velio’s family will receive visitors at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 10, 2026, at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N Haggerty Rd, Plymouth, MI 48170. He will lay in state at St. Kenneth on Monday from 10:30 am until the time of the Mass.
