Virginia Fernandez, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 86 years old.
Born on November 15, 1938, in Brackettville, Texas, to her beloved parents Ramiro and Beatriz Ureste, Virginia lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service to others. She shared 65 beautiful years of marriage with her husband and best friend, Manuel Fernandez, creating a legacy built on devotion, kindness, and family.
Virginia was the loving mother of Pamela (Tom) Angellotti and the late David (Andrea) Fernandez. Her love and care extended deeply to her grandchildren—Victoria (Dustin Harmon) Facchini, Gabriela (Kyle) Gallagher, and Diego Fernandez—and she took immense pride in her great-grandchildren, Franco and Virginia Gallagher.
She was the treasured sister of Mary (late Walter) Wordell and Rudy (Edna) Ureste and was preceded in death by her brother Ramiro (Dolores) Ureste. Virginia also leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews who adored her.
Virginia’s life revolved around her family and her unwavering Catholic faith. She was the heart of her home, always ensuring that those around her were cared for, well-fed, and deeply loved—especially her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. Her cooking was legendary and her home was always open to anyone in need of comfort or a warm meal.
Virginia lovingly prepared meals for the priests of Miles Christi, generously sharing her time and talents in service to others. She also found great fulfillment praying the Rosary with friends and holding others in prayer. Her gentle spirit and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Virginia also shared a passion for travel with her husband, creating lifelong memories in Mexico, Spain, Paris, Italy, France, England, and beyond. Wherever she went, her warmth and grace shone brightly.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM, at Harry J. Will Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM (in state at 9:30 AM) at St. Colette Catholic Church. Virginia will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
