William F. Diamond Jr.

William Francis Diamond, Jr. was born the only child of William Sr. and Doris Diamond, in Detroit, Michigan, on March 21, 1945. He passed away peacefully in Livonia, Michigan on March 19, 2019. He was holding the hand of his son, Erin while they watched his beloved Detroit Tigers when he took his last quiet breath.

William was the beloved father of Erin E. (Jill) Diamond, Bo (Zoe) Diamond and Patty (John) Kirk. Loving and devoted grandfather of Madison, William, Veronica, Joseph and Peyton. Former husband of Dolly, who was still his best friend after the divorce. They took care of each other and laughed together until his last day.

William was a very proud and decorated Army Veteran who served in Vietnam as a Specialist 4th Class. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 32 and would buy any veteran a drink whether he knew them or not. He will be deeply missed by his many veteran brothers. They were a second family to him.

He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1963 and bought himself a red Corvette. When the Vietnam War started, he felt it was his duty to serve his country and sold his beloved Corvette to join the Army. He stated in his many letters home that when he came home from Vietnam, he was going to buy another Corvette, a Cadillac, and marry the love of his life. William accomplished all three.

William was a foul-mouthed, hard-headed, tough SOB who loved to party with his veteran brothers. However, he was generous to a fault. Everyone knew he would give someone the last dollar out of his pocket and the shirt off his back if a person was in need and deserved it.

His lawn was always immaculate and he loved to cook. William would make his famous crock-pot dinners and drop them off for his children when he knew they were too busy to have a home cooked meal. He would also randomly have his children’s homes remodeled when necessary when he knew that they could not afford the repairs.

William loved watching his Detroit sports teams play, especially the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers. However, his passion was his family. He simply loved being a father and grandfather. He always made sure everyone was taken care of and worried about their welfare constantly and spoke about it even on his last day. Everything he did was for the good of his family. When he finally bought his red Corvette in 2015 he had it modified to be an automatic transmission so that his daughter-in-law Jill could drive it.

Visitation is Friday, March 22, 2019 beginning at 2:00 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. Mr. Diamond's American Legion Post #32 will provide a service including military honors. At 7:00 p.m. the funeral service will begin.
