William James Evans, age 76, went to his heavenly home on June 7 2015, peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Bill was the devoted son of Margaret and William P. Evans, formerly of Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. Soon after moving to Detroit with his parents and brother Jim, Bill met and married his high school sweetheart Yvonne Blouin. Yvonne and her limey boyfriend Bill went on to have a love affair lasting over 52, mostly blissful years!!
Bill was a patriot and served his country as an Army MP before returning to Detroit to raise his family. Bill put himself through college, and began his career in fluid power engineering. He was a hard working man who gave 100% professionally, but his real devotion was to family and friends. Bill was a kind and gentle father and friend who always had time to listen or help out. His skills went far beyond engineering and he taught his sons and daughter many useful skills, including how to build, fix, and repair anything. Bill also taught them the critical skill of how to properly open a bag of Better-made Potato Chips.
He had many hobbies including crazy cannonballs, train layouts, tractor riding, and driving his pontoon boat around Lake Isabella. He particularly enjoyed enlightening many misinformed referees at his grandson's hockey and basketball games!!
In addition to family, Bill had a life long love affair with floppy bacon, Bode's Corned Beef, pork chops, potato chips, Tastecake Chocolate Cupcakes, and of course, seafood of all variety!! He was his own, very special type of Foodie!
Bill is survived by his wife Yvonne, brother Jim (Delphine) Evans and his children Jody (Kenny) Hamilton, Bill (Justine) Evans, Bob (Lisa) Evans and Cheryl Jones-Evans. He also leaves his grandchildren ,Jamie, Nate, Jake, Anna, Sarah, Billy, Alyssa, and Lauren, to remember his loving, gentile wisdom and affection. Most of all, Bill taught his family to be resilient, responsible, and to never give up on those you love--He never did.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, and Monday from 10:00am to 11:00am at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road in Livonia. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 11:00am.
