Bill was born on October 31, 1934, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Loyal and Wilma Rector of Dexter. He was the oldest of three children and a graduate of Dexter High School, class of 1952. He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War, including a memorable time on a tank ship above the Arctic Circle. He attend the University of Michigan and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a business degree. Bill served in Naval Intelligence (NCIS) for seven years as a field agent before becoming an insurance salesman, financial planner, and small business owner. He was a life-long fisherman and hunter and loved to share his catch with friends and family. He enjoyed watching UofM football, playing with his family’s dogs, and spending time outdoors.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary, of 11 years, his daughter, Sheila (Matt Tuynman), and granddaughter Abby. He also leaves behind his sisters Ruth (Bill Gretzinger) and Mary Ann (Reuben Chapman) and several nieces and nephews. He was loved by Mary’s children: Jay Gersabeck, Leslie Ender, Greg Gersabeck, Julie McIntosh, and Lori Stephens, as well as their spouses and children.
Bill was preceded in death by wife Irene (2007).
A small family service will be held at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery for Veterans in Holly.
