William Patton Wilson

December 30, 1930July 20, 2020

William P. Wilson, age 89, son of James V. Wilson and Susan May Patton, passed away July 20, 2020. Beloved husband of Carol for 69 wonderful years. Loving father of Jim (Kathy), Dave (Janet), Gary (Lisa), Doug (Barb), Linda, Bob (Nancy), Jen Klaus (Mark), and Karyn Lennon (B.J.). Cherished grandfather of 17, great grandfather of 18 and great great grandfather of 3. Dearest brother of Sue Barry (Mike). Preceded in death by siblings John and Martha.

Bill was the epitome of a devout, loving, hard-working, family man. His honesty and integrity were beyond reproach. He always enjoyed watching, and actively participating in, his kids and grandkids sporting interests and other activities. He was an enthusiastic competitor in the family golf scramble, “around the world” ping pong, baggo, a good game of horse or 21 and numerous board and card games. Though raised a Presbyterian, he was very involved in his children’s Catholic church and school communities at St. Norbert, Sacred Heart and Divine Child. He worked bingo, painted social halls, and did whatever needed to be done. He was a former President of the Inkster Lions Club, and active member of the Jaycees. After 16 years at the Detroit News, Bill spent over 30 years working as a parts manager for Chrysler dealerships. Later in his career, he also owned an inventory service company which he continued to operate well after his “retirement”.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 26th at 3pm until the covered, outdoor Memorial Service that will begin at 5pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home on Six Mile Road in Livonia. Masks are required.

Due to the current funeral home restrictions because of COVID, the family would appreciate donations to the Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation or Penrickton Center for Blind Children in lieu of flowers.

I just heard the sad news. The entire Wilson clan is in my thoughts and prayers. He was a great guy - I have nothing but fond memories of him. As you know we spent many of the major holidays together. My family loved spending time with yours because everyone was such a joy to be around, and it started at the top. He will definitely be missed.

No words can express the rush of feelings flooding through me from a lifetime of memories when hearing of the passing of our Uncle Bill Wilson. Your passing will affect many of us for a long time.
The Patriarch of our family, Uncle Bill’s mostly silent lifelong, centered presence, made me and many others better men, better humans.
Our only consolation is that we know his love has carried on through his children and grandchildren. He will always be a part of our lives because his children lead lives that are an extension of this great man. So too their children, and so on.
In my eyes your life was flawless.
Except for that crap that happened in 1968 between Sacred Heart High School and Cabrini High School.
Ill miss you Uncle Bill.

The “Greatest Generation “ has lost one of the great ones.
I grew up seeing my Dad, Aunt and Uncles smiling when they talked about playing ball and growing up together with their cousin Billy Wilson . I always enjoyed visiting and getting first hand stories from Bill and very glad I got a chance to see him at our last reunion.
He was loved by so many and will always be remembered and I am proud to share his name.

I was so sad to hear of Bills passing. I know how difficult these last few months have been on Carol and their kids not being able to physically be with Bill, but I’m so glad Carol & Bill we’re finally together for his last few days. I will always remember the beautiful friendship my parents, Bill & Ellen had with the Wilsons. They had such good times together. Bill said the eulogy at my dads funeral service and I’ll always remember him reflecting on their long, wonderful friendship.
We will be thinking of the family through this difficult time, especially Carol. Much Love ❤️

I'm so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I'll never forget hearing his comments through Carol, that he was in the back room having a heart-attack (not really). He thought Jen and I would never get his patio back together again, but we did. What an incredible man was.

I have the fondest memories of Bill's active support of the athletic program at Sacred Heart. His devotion to all of his children, and all of their pursuits, both academically and athletically was very obvious. My sincerest condolences to Jim and Cathy and Mrs Wilson. May He Rest In Peace.
