Wright Clement Sawyer, age 86, of Livonia, Michigan passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Wright was born February 18, 1932 to Mary and Lyle Sawyer. He spent his early years living in Detroit, before moving to Brooklyn, Michigan, where he started high school. During high school, Wright met his beloved wife to be, Miriam.
Wright served honorably in the US Army, stationed in Korea. Upon returning from service, he finished his college education at Adrian College.
Wright served as a teacher for 40 years, the last 30 years spent in the Livonia Public School system teaching elementary aged children. Most of his years teaching were spent as a learning specialist. During the summer, he taught driver’s education for more than 25 years. Wright was a Member of the MARSP.
He was also a Member of the American Legion Post #32. During the last 22 years, he enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe with his wife, family and friends.
Wright will be deeply missed by his high school sweetheart, Miriam; sons Steven, Matthew (Michele), and Timothy (Linda); grandchildren April, Amber (Max) and Jack; and great grandchild Kinsley.
Wright was preceded in death by father Lyle; mother Mary; brothers Plummer, Richard and Howard Sawyer.
Visitation for Wright will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152 with a Scripture service at 5:00 PM led by Rev. David Owen. An in state will occur Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, 160 N Main St, Brooklyn, MI with a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Contributions in Wright's memory may be made to the Deacon’s Fund at either Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, 160 N Main St, Brooklyn, Michigan; or Ward Presbyterian Church, 40000 Six Mile Rd, Northville, Michigan.
