MacLeod: John; Passed away on November 28, 2022, at Parkwood Hospital. John was born on November 7, 1928, on the Island of Lewis, Scotland. He emigrated to Canada in 1952 and after working on farms in Quebec, he settled in London where he worked at Vanadium Steel and then finished his working life at Bendix Heavy Vehicle Systems. It was while working at Vanadium where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Hanson. They were married in 1960 and remained best friends and true loves until Marilyn passed away in 2004. He missed her every single day. They had a great life together and travelled to Scotland many times for family visits. Marilyn’s large extended family was also a big part of his life, and he remained very close with them. John is survived by his loving son Don, his wife Heather McMillan and his loved grandchildren Alex MacLeod, Nick McMillan (Heather) and Brandi McMillan (Raf). His stories and advice to his family will be greatly missed. He was a fixture at hockey, baseball and soccer games and we will miss seeing him there. John is also survived by family in Scotland, brother Alex MacLeod (Irene), sisters Catherine Campbell (Murdo - deceased) and Murdina MacLeod (Len - deceased). His brother and sisters will miss the Sunday calls from their big brother. Also survived by brothers-in law, Roy Smith and Rob Fyfe and sister-in-law Miriam Hanson, and his cousin, Cathy MacAulay Cheslak, many nieces and nephews in Canada and Scotland. John was predeceased by his father Donald, his mother Margaret and sister Mary Disher (Tommy). Also predeceased by sisters-in-law Cheryl Fyfe and Joyce Smith, brothers-in-law Howard Hanson and Bob Hanson. Predeceased by his cousin and best friend of over 60 years, Donald MacDonald and his wife Kaye. No doubt Big Don and John are sharing a shot and a beer at the kitchen table. John lived a good life. He was resolute in his devotion to his wife, his family and his church, St. George’s Presbyterian. He loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs and was king of crosswords and the word jumble. Pauline McMillan will miss her nightly calls to compare notes on the crossword and jumble. A devoted husband, caring and loving father and grandfather, he taught us all what it meant to be a “good man”. You will forever by in our hearts and never forgotten. Visitation will be held at St. George’s Presbyterian Church, 1475 Dundas Street, on Sunday, December 4, 2022, between 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., where a service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment New Durham Cemetery at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of John, are asked to consider St. George’s Presbyterian Church or St. Joseph’s Health Foundation Palliative Care Program.
