Dr. Peter Tye was a man of many facets. He possessed an astonishing intellect. As an engineer, he earned a Ph.D. in Two-Phase flow and had an international reputation as an expert in his field. Peter was also an incredible athlete. He was an Iron Man triathlete, an avid cyclist and runner, as well as an accomplished skier. Peter had recently started a new phase in his life when in 2017 he sold his house and bought a sailboat with the intent to sail the oceans of the world. After sailing the Caribbean, Peter successfully sailed across the Pacific Ocean and then throughout the South Pacific, visiting the many islands of Polynesia, while his friends waited anxiously for him to relate the latest chapter of his travels. Unfortunately, Peter had to put his adventures on hold to return home to care for his ailing mother.
Much more than a scientist, Peter was a very cultured man. He was a voracious reader, and one would be hard pressed to find a topic in which he was not knowledgeable. Peter had so many talents it is impossible to list them all. He loved animals and they loved him back. He was a fiercely loyal friend, always there to lend a helping hand. Of his many friends, none could believe the news of his passing. The reaction was almost unanimous: “No, that’s impossible!”. Peter leaves behind his little brother Mark and the many friends he made during his life. Captain Pete will be sorely missed by all those whose path he crossed. Fair winds and following seas!
