

Reta Mae (Tomlinson) Shannon, devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and great grandmother, supportive and caring friend, avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and one incredible baker passed away peacefully Friday, August 27, 2021 at the age of 95.
Reta was predeceased by her soulmate and husband of 47 years, Bill, exactly 27 years ago to the day and by all her siblings; Cecil Tomlinson, Howard Tomlinson, Evelyn Clark, and Jack Tomlinson.
Reta will be greatly missed but fondly and lovingly remembered by her children Elizabeth Inwood (Martin), Jeanette MacMillan (Jim), Bill Shannon (Joyce), Jennifer Shannon-Mousseau (Barry), Mark Shannon (Margaret), and Michelle Shannon (John Weber). Her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Reta was raised on a dairy farm just west of Thamesford and lived with her parents until she married Bill in 1946. Reta and Bill after dedicating themselves to raising a large active family, enjoyed camping trips out west and to Florida in the winter. Reta was also an avid traveller and enjoyed many cruises, trips to Ireland and England, Mexico, as well as the Caribbean with family and friends.
In her later years Reta whole heartedly embraced her love for baking. Her children and grandchildren were ever hopeful that any family gathering meant some of Reta’s renowned apple, blueberry, or lemon meringue pie or her decadent butter tarts or her incredible chocolate chip cookies.
Finally, Reta was a kind, caring, loving woman who always conducted herself with grace and dignity. She always made everyone feel welcome and comfortable.
Many thanks to the sixth floor staff at University Hospital, 5North A at Parkwood Hospital, and Victoria Hospital Emergency and sixth floor Medicine staff, Palliative Care for their exceptionally dedicated and compassionate care.
Due to Covid and health concerns there will be no visitation and no funeral. A private Family Celebration of Life will be held.
Donations in Reta’s memory would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy to Diabetes Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and Anova Women’s Shelter.
