Timo Tapio Korpijaakko was found on July 16, 2020 having passed away peacefully in his apartment. He will be missed dearly by his siblings, Aino, Paula, Carla and Alex Korpijaakko, his niece and nephews Paige, Alex and David, his father Erkki Korpijaakko, and stepmother Margarete Tolksdorf; Timo’s mother, Maija-Leena Sormunen, had passed away of MS in 1984 and we are certain they are now reunited. Timo was born in Canada on November 9, 1970 and would have turned 50 this year.
Timo received an Honours Bachelor of Science, Human Biology, Zoology with a minor in Sociology from University of Toronto in 2000, worked in research, and volunteered himself and his time in pharmaceutical clinical trials to support ongoing medical research. He is remembered by family and friends as an excellent track and field runner, band trumpet player, mischievous, witty and sarcastic joker who loved to make people laugh, a science advocate, deep thinker and someone who loved profound existential and philosophical discussions and debates. Those who knew him reflect fondly on his welcoming and friendly nature, penchant for driving conversations that really mattered, as a fabulous cook, a true feminist. Timo sought to help those in need in many ways and would always stand up vehemently for the underdog; rescuing animals and pets in danger for example, or organizing a fundraiser to support a friend. Timo filled the gaps in his time immersed in visual arts as a photographer and sketching artist. Timo’s larger than life presence and charisma will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched; he will never be forgotten.
We extend our deepest, sincere gratitude to the social workers and staff at London Cares, who supported him over many years and helped him find the stability and resources and ultimately put him on a positive upward trajectory. Words cannot express how much it means to us that they could help when we could not. We thank all workers who provide services and support to our Canadians who struggle with addictions, joblessness and homelessness and who, ultimately, are caring for all of our own family members in so many ways.
Timo’s ashes will be interred in 2021 with his mother at the Korpijaakko family plot in Finland.
Our family asks that any considerations or gifts be directed as donations to London Cares, or to local food bank or shelter as donors so choose. London Cares’ donation website can be found here:
