Predeceased by her husband, Oscar Churilla, and her sister, Rose Mary Ference.
Velma is survived by her three children: Richard (Diane), Robert (Cyndy), and Lianne (Todd). She is lovingly remembered by eight grandchildren: Alicia, Nicholas, Viktoria, Ryan, Denver, Eric (Emma), Jane, and Blake.
Velma was a devoted elementary school teacher for much of her life. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse and later taught in schools in Woodstock, Ontario. Velma was a talented cook, loved to bake, and enjoyed ballroom dancing with Oscar. She also pursued many hobbies, including playing the violin and guitar, and reading. In her retirement years, she devoted much of her time to being with her grandchildren.
