
Alfred Lara Garcia passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at his home in Lakewood. He was born in Ontario, CA in 1922. Alfred is survived by his wife Lucy, 6 children, son and daughters-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, one brother, and numerous nieces and nephews.
As a young man, Alfred joined the Army, as a combat engineer, in WWII. Post war, he met his wife, Lucy, in Mexicali, Mexico. Marrying Lucy, they relocated to California, and settled in Lakewood, where they resided in the same house since 1952. They have 6 children, Arthur, Steve, Fred, Cindy, Belinda and Alfred has a daughter from a previous marriage, Mickey. They also had a daughter, Belinda who died at the age of 6 mos. Alfred and Lucy devoted their lives to working hard and raising their family.
During his lifetime, he was employed by the REA, Pacific Theaters, and the City of Lakewood Water Department, from where he retired in 1987.
Alfred enjoyed the simple pleasures of life by working with his hands. He taught himself how to weld, carpentry, and traveled with Lucy, after they both retired. He enjoyed many weekends with his family and friends. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed the many activities; he and Lucy were involved with, through the Catholic organization.
Alfred's life was a life of giving. He especially gave of himself to his children, his wife, and many grandchildren.
Alfred leaves a tremendous legacy of love, laughter, warmth and friendship. His charismatic spirit endeared him to everyone he met.
Services for Alfred Garcia are as follows: Rosary and Viewing, September 19, 2014 from 4-7 pm, St Pancratius Church, 3519 St. Pancratius Pl, Lakewood. Funeral Mass, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 am at St Pancratius Church in Lakewood with the burial following at All Souls Cemetary, 4400 Cherry Ave., Long Beach, 90807. Celebration of Life Reception to be held at The Grand, 4101 E. Willow St, Long Beach, 90815 after burial.
