2 brothers & 1 sister. Billie left Texas when she as 17 & came to
Long Beach, California to live with her sister & her husband. She met
her husband Ted not too long after that. Ted was in the Navy. A
friend who knew both Ted & Billie gave Ted Billie’s address, so he
went to see her. Ted had borrowed his brother’s car & they went out.
Ted told Billie right up front that he had no intention of getting
married. And Billie said she didn’t either. Welllllll --------- there must
have been some “magic” there because they were married 8 weeks
later on August 11, 1942. They were 17 & 19.
They had 2 daughters, Nancy & Jill. In 1950 they purchased their
home in Lakewood, where they lived all those years. Billie was
fortunate to be able to stay home with her girls. She worked in a
children’s clothing store for a short time & spent everything she made
on her girls. Billie was a very dedicated & devoted Mom. Billie
enjoyed her girls & their friends, their friends were always welcome.
During their high school years there could be 10 to 12 friends at the
house. She loved having the house full of kids. Nancy & Jill’s friends
also liked Billie. She said that as long as the kids were there she
knew where they were & what they were doing.
During the girls junior & high school years, Ted drove truck long haul,
sometimes being gone 3 to 7 days. After the girls left home, Billie
told Ted he needed to stop driving long haul & be home at nights. He
got another job driving truck locally.
When Billie was in her early 70’s Ted signed her up for art classes.
She painted many pictures & shared them with her family & friends.
She won some ribbons in several shows.
Billie had 3 granddaughters – Jamie, Traci, & Courtney. Billie was
also blessed with 3 great grandkids – Kyle (15), Kevin (12), & Aubrey
(3 ¾). Billie spent a lot of time with them, and she loved every minute
of it.
She was loved & will be missed by many.
