Celina Velarde Millington

Celina Velarde Millington went home to God on Tuesday, August 31 2010. She is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. William G. Millington, her daughters, Dr. Lisa Velarde, Teresa Velarde-Page and son-in-law, David Page. Her precious grandsons, Justin and Lucas Page, siblings, Molly Dominguez, Inez Dominguez, Glenda Dominguez, John Dominguez, Jim Dominguez and their spouses.

Celina was born in Manassa Colorado on January 2, 1940. She was the daughter of Elsie and Pete Dominguez and the eldest of 6 sisters and brothers. Her mother greatly supported Celina’s intent on completing a college education, the first in her family to do so. With a lot of hard work and tenacity, Celina would earn her B.A. degree from Long Beach City College and later her Masters in Sociology from California State University, Long Beach. It was then that Dr. William Millington hired her to become a full-time faculty member at Long Beach City College. She taught Sociology for over 25 years, fulfilling her dream of inspiring and teaching others about the world around us. During that time, Celina’s daughter, Lisa, earned her Doctorate degree, and her older daughter Teresa, her Masters. She later married the man that would become “the love of her life”, Dr. William “Bill” Millington. Her life became complete when the other “two loves of her life”, were born, grandsons, Justin and Lucas.

Funeral services will be held at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Los Alamitos, California, Tuesday, September 7th at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in her name to either of the following: St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Servite High School in Anaheim, or St. Jude’s Hospital.
