Charles Peter Mohr Jr.

Charles P. Mohr, Jr., 76, of Long Beach, California, passed away on the evening of February 19, 2024, in Long Beach from complications from a fall. Charlie was born in White Plains, NY and moved to California in 1982 to work for the federal government’s Defense Contracting Auditing Agency. Prior to his work with DCAA, he worked for the County of Westchester in various capacities. A superb linguist, Charlie excelled in Latin, Greek and Russian at Archbishop Stepinac High School, where he graduated near the top of his class. He graduated first in his class at the Air Force Institute of Technology Language Program in Russian at Syracuse University where, at commencement, he gave his valedictory speech in Russian. Although his parents who were in attendance had no idea what he said, they were suitably proud. After the Air Force, Charlie attended Pace University while working full-time and graduated as his class’s Salutatorian with a double degree in Business and Accounting, though this time, being a man of few words, he declined to give a speech in either English or Russian. He received several citations for his outstanding work with DCAA and retired in the early 2000s. He spent his retirement traveling a bit but mostly he continued to read and write as he had his entire life. He also visited regularly with his siblings in California and enjoyed spending time with the family’s dogs, whom he unapologetically spoiled.

Charlie is survived by his siblings, Brian (74), Joan (73) and Kevin (73), and his nephew Christopher. His father, Charles P. Mohr Sr., and mother, Marie (McHale) Mohr, predeceased him. His life is a treasured memory. He will be sorely missed.
