"Delores A. Nelson was born in Jackson, Minnesota, on February 10, 1922, to John and Julia Matekja-Jerousek. She was the youngest of four children and orphaned with her siblings when she was 12 years old. In 1944, Delores and her sister Blanche moved to Long Beach where Delores worked shortly in retail before a career at Proctor & Gamble (P&G). Delores continuously rose up through the ranks at P&G through her hard work and dedication, eventually working as a chemist despite any formal education in chemistry. By age 30, she purchased her own car, even without knowing how to drive. Delores married Robert D. Nelson at St. Anthony’s church in 1952. Robert and Delores had one child, Craig. The family started their own business with other partners, Berg Nelson Company, which is still operating successfully today. Delores took joy in reading, watching her granddaughter play softball and travelling with Robert until he passed in 2001. Delores passed on October 27, 2016, leaving behind her son, who still owns and manages Berg Nelson, and granddaughter, an attorney in Los Angeles. Delores was a beacon of strength and grace to all those that knew her."
