July 12, 1929 – May 22, 2011
Emilio Chavez passed away peacefully at Long Beach Memorial Hospital on May 22, 2011. He survived by his sons Gilbert (Claudia), Mario (Elena), Augustine his daughter Teresa (Vincent), as well as 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Emilio was a simple man, a T-shirt, jeans kinda guy and always in a baseball cap. He took great pride in his garden and used all the different types of chilies to make his homemade salsas. He loved to share his passion for cooking with his family. He always used to sit right next to the B-B-Q cooking carne asada while the strength from his homemade salsas would make everyone start coughing. He would always say “The hotter the better!” He would sit and smile, because the simple things are what made him happy. He made the best beans in the world, and he always had 1 secret ingredient…. Love! Every Christmas we would gather around his table making tamales while listening to him make plans to make his famous menudo for New Years Day…
You may be gone now, but your legacy will live forever in our memories. We will love you and miss you always.
