Esther Lara Vieyra

February 24, 1935 - December 6, 2011

Esther was the last of twelve children born to the late Angel and Estefana Lara in Hanford, CA on February 24, 1935. She passed away on December 6, 2011 in the comfort of her Long Beach home with family by her side. On May 8, 1960 she was united in marriage with Manuel S. Vieyra, Jr. In 1962, Esther moved to Long Beach, CA with her husband. Prior to marriage and moving to Long Beach she worked at Ghilarducci's Dept. Store in Buttonwillow, CA. In the 1970s she worked for Montgomery Wards in Lynwood. She found fulfillment working as an at home caregiver for a sick friend then later working with children at the St. Cornelius Extended Day Care until her retirement. However, nothing gave her more joy than being wife, mother and homemaker for her husband and two children, Greg and Monica and grandmother to her granddaughter, Justine. Unless of course one is talking about her favorite retirement past time of bus trips to Las Vegas, Stateline or any local casino. She is survived by husband Manuel, children, Greg (Bridgette) Vieyra and Monica (John) Sandgren, granddaughter Justine Lara Sandgren, brothers Paul (Ethel) Lara, Jesse Lara and sister Connie Martinez all of Bakersfield, CA. Seven sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight of her sisters and brothers.
