Felix Alexander Fox, 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2019 in Huntington Beach, California from prostate cancer. He was born May 15, 1946 in Omaha, Nebraska to Earl and Ruth Fox. He spent his younger years in Omaha, moving to the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area in 1958. He was the oldest of seven children.
Felix served in the United States Navy as a Ship Electrician from September 25, 1963 to March 29, 1966. He was stationed at the US Naval Station in Long Beach, California. He served on the USS Harry E. Hubbard (DD-748) during the Vietnam War. He was transferred to the Navel Reserve for the remainder of his service contract, ending on September 24, 1969. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After serving in the Navy, he returned to Sioux Falls, where he met Delores Rabenberg. They were married on July 31, 1967 and had four children. Felix enjoyed many years coaching his children on the softball and soccer fields. He was an active member of the Sioux Falls Fast Pitch Softball Association. He worked as an electrician while living in Sioux Falls. He received a Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship in 1972 and a Master Electrician’s License in 1984. Felix obtained his GED while in the service. In 1985 he obtained an Associate In Applied Science Degree from the Community College in Sioux Falls. In 1987 he received a Bachelor Of Science Degree from National College in Sioux Falls. Felix moved to California in 1988. It was there that he met and fell in love with his partner of 34 years, Janice Metz. He continued his education in California, receiving a Master Of Arts In Human Behavior from National University. He was employed at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California as a Quality Service Manager for five years, and then worked as an electrician until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping in his free time.
Felix was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth Fox, and a brother, Mike Fox. He is survived by his brothers Tim (Janice) Fox and Kim Fox and his sisters Ronda (Ron) Bachman, Roxie (Jay) Fossum, and Robin Callaway; his sons Jeff Fox, Darrin (Sonja) Fox, and Derrick (Renee) Fox, and his daughter Shawna Goetzinger; his partner Janice Metz and her son, Scott McMartin; 7 grandsons and 5 granddaughters.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 5:00pm at Stricklin/Snively Funeral Home located at 1952 Long Beach Blvd in Long Beach, California with reception to follow. Burial and military tribute will be held at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on a future date.
