FELIX ANTONIO MORA CHAMORRO
We gather to honor you for all your teachings and the strong legacy you left your family. We thank you for your infinite love, dedication, constant prayers and for sharing with us your resilient faith in The Lord.
Felix Antonio was born in Tuquerres, Narino, Colombia on Wednesday May 26th, 1920. The first born to Rosa and Cerveleon Mora Chamorro. Felix left his hometown to look for job opportunities in Pasto at the tender age of 14, where he was introduced to the art of baking. He would travel back home every six months to bring most of his earnings to his mother. Felix left home again as an 18-year-old to comply with his military duty, being transferred to Barranquilla, where he served for two years. Following the completion of his service, Felix moved with his brother Carlos to Cali and then Medellin. Later Felix moved to the capital of Colombia, Bogota, where he learned how to be a cobbler.
One day, Felix was sent to a material supplier store for cobblers, where his future wife Barbara happened to be working as a store clerk. Felix was overtaken by her beauty, and since then he always loved recalling how she courteously smiled back at him as he admired her. Days later, Felix came back to ask Barbara out on a date, to which she showed up dressed very elegantly. He said she looked like a true movie star.
Felix and Barbara got married on Aug 13th, 1949; together they raised five children: three sons and two daughters: Felix Jorge, Luis Eduardo, Miguel Angel, Stella, and Luz Elena. Throughout their early marriage, Felix and Barbara worked side by side in various business ventures, generally in the shoemaking and baking industries.
Felix and Barbara had nine grandchildren: Carlos, Miguel, Janna Lynn, Jordan, Nathalie, Jackie, JeanPierre, Danny and Charlie, followed by six greatgrandchildren, Mia, Sofia, Imogen, JeanPierre, Lennox, Liam and one more yet to come.
In 1988, Felix and Barbara moved to Los Angeles, California, to join his son Felix Jorge. In later years, the rest of the children moved to California to join them.
Felix frequently expressed how the source of his happiness was his family. Felix loved to celebrate birthdays, Christmas, and Thanksgiving, as he was always very grateful to share time with the family he founded; he never failed to give a heart-felt speech on every occasion.
Felix loved throughout his entire life, writing, and sending birthday and Christmas cards to his family and friends, regardless of where they resided around the world. Not to mention he enjoyed receiving cards just as much.
Love, peace, and patience were Felix’s favorite words of virtues. He kept his mind sharp for many years by writing letters, reading the bible and the newspaper every day, and poem books. He also enjoyed playing billiards, going on walks, and watching soccer. Felix loved dancing to all types of music with his wife Barbara, especially Colombian music. Some of his favorite songs were: “El Sanjuanero”, “El Camino de la Vida,” and the faith song: “Pescador de hombres.” Though he truly enjoyed all these things, ice-cream always did (and always will) have a special place in Felix’s heart and soul.
When asked about the secret behind his long life, Felix advised to “love God above all things, and then love family”; “keep your family united and be active in your community”. “faith is the secret to happiness”; “always be positive; even if the world ends today, be happy.”
The family unknowingly enjoyed the privilege of celebrating Felix’s 100th birthday on May 26th, 2020.
Felix enjoyed a long, healthy, peaceful life. There was peace when he ascended to heaven on Monday December 21st, 2020. The Lord granted Felix his request to pass away in his sleep.
Today we celebrate, FELIX going back to The Lord. We happily wait for the day when we will see him again in heaven, through the saving grace of Jesus Christ, son of the Living God.
