Julia U. Ortega

June 1, 1929 – January 18, 2015

Julia was called home to the Lord on Sunday January 18th in Torrance, CA. surrounded by her family. Born in Delicias and raised in the city of Chihuahua, MX. She lost her mother at the tender age of 8 and spent most of her childhood raising her younger siblings. Growing up Julia was intelligent and interested in writing poetry in which she did under a pen name. She completed her training as an accountant and worked for her father in his legal business until she married and moved to the United States with her husband in the late 1950’s. They moved to San Pedro, CA and together they raised 4 children. In the late 1980’s when Julia was in her early 60’s she became a United States Citizen. Although Julia was very proud of being a citizen she never forgot her strong family roots of her family name Urquidi.

She was a loving, wonderful mother and friend always there to help take care of someone when in need and never asked for anything in return.

Julia also loved being a grandmother. She loved watching her grandsons on video as they were growing up or taking care of her other grandkids. She attended school functions and took them to play in the park. She never watched them from the park bench she played with them on the jungle gyms and slides and always made sure that every park visit ended with a trip to McDonald’s and the ice cream shop. Ever the protective Grandmother either at the park or in her pool she watched over them with such love and devotion, she will truly be missed.

In her later years Julia resided at the Torrance Care Center East where the nurses and staff became extended family to her. To the staff she is known as “Abuelita” and there they took loving care of her till the very end.

Julia is preceded in death by her husband Arturo V. Ortega (1993). She is survived by her sister Bertha Gomez, and her 4 children, Leticia (Paul) Ortega-Adel, Cecilia Ortega (Art Diaz), Arturo (Rosanne) Ortega, and Lucia Ortega (David Larson). Julia also leaves behind her loving grandchildren: Parker, Asher, Alicia, Jason, Summer, Travis
