Kent George Merryfield

Afterglow I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

I was very sad to hear of Dr. Merryfield's passing. I had him as a professor back in the late 80's for Analysis I and II, Fourier Analysis, and Complex Analysis. I was a geology major, but he was such a great teacher I ended up minoring in math and still have a passion for math to this day. He will be missed. My sincerest condolences to his family, students, and all those he mentored.

I was very sad to hear that Kent Merryfield has passed away. I had the privilege of working with him on Math Day at the Beach and math workshops for high school math teachers at CSULB. His love for mathematics and encouraging students (both high school and college) was so very important to our academic world and society at large. I especially appreciated his work with ARML (American Regions Mathematics League) where I saw high school mathematicians being encouraged through competition and collaboration to excel and pursue their studies in math and science. Professor Merryfield was one of a kind and will be missed.
