Lydia “Yoyang” Incoy Solis was born March 29, 1931, in Cavite City, Philippines, and was the 5th eldest of 10 children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away peacefully with her husband and 7 children beside her on Thursday, February 14, 2013, shortly before midnight. As a child, Lydia was known as a bright student and was even able to complete six years of schooling in only five. Her dream was to be a school teacher, but due to financial hardship,
was only able to attend school until 6th grade. During World War II in the 1940s, she moved to Naic, where she went on to eventually meet Joaquin Malanao Solis, who first became friends with her brother, Pepe. It was love at first sight for Joaquin and Lydia, and after several months of courting, they married on March 2, 1950. A year later, they were blessed with their
first child, Edgardo. Over the next several years, they went on to give birth to Dante, Charito, Marissa, Ronaldo, Ariel
and Jinky. With Dante joining the United States Navy in 1975, the family was able to begin immigrating to the US in 1980. After first arriving to America, Lydia made a living as a babysitter, and went on to work at Long Beach Memorial Hospital for 13 years until she had to retire in 1999 due to a quadruple bypass. Lydia remained strong after that and focused on her unconditional love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to take care of her family and friends and was known for being a great chef, always cooking the food for family gatherings. She was a selfless and giving person, and to the very end, wanted to make sure that all of her loved ones were going to be okay. Lydia leaves in this life a loving husband, Joaquin; 7 children; 17 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Lydia is also survived by her last surviving sibling, Luningning Incoy Sugatan. On behalf of the entire Solis family, many thanks and blessings for the love and support that everyone has given us during this time. The outpouring of love that you have shown will always remind us of all of the lives Lydia has touched throughout her more than 81 wonderful years.
