Marie E. Larrabee

103 years young

Marie was born on January 26, 1909, and departed to be with our Lord April 24, 2012. Marie was born in Roscoe Minnesota, the youngest child of Jacob and Mary Engelhard. She was raised on a farm with her ten brothers and sisters, and had a happy childhood.

Marie met and married Stuart C. Larrabee in Minnesota when Marie was in her forties. She never had any children but was loved and pampered by Stuart. Stuart preceded Marie in death in 1994.

Marie worked in a doctor’s office as a young woman. When Marie and Stuart relocated to California they settled in the Lakewood area. Marie and Stuart, who was a retired railroad man, purchased and operated the Carwood Cleaners on Woodruff and Carson in Lakewood.

Marie loved to entertain. She was a marvelous cook, a great host, a meticulous housekeeper and she adhered to all the rules of proper etiquette. Marie loved her home. She lived in her Lakewood home for most of her married life and died peacefully there with loving friends at her side.

Marie was a devout Roman Catholic, devoted to a life of prayer and to her beloved Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church.

Her twinkling blue eyes, her delightful smile, her elegant dress and her loving ways will be missed by family, friends and parishioners. Her normal chair at 10:00 am Sunday Mass will never be the same. An emptiness and loss will be felt by many.

In lieu of flowers we request donations be made to Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church: 3954 Palo Verde Avenue, Long Beach, California or to Saint Ann’s Maternity Home in Los Angeles, in Marie Larrabee’s name.
