Our Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother…our Nana went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2016 at 6 am. She was born on January 12, 1924 in Steins, New Mexico to parents, Abel and Telesflora Chacon. She was one of six girls. Years went by and she met her husband, Ramon “Raymond” Lus Rivas in March of 1943 and they were soon engaged in September of the same year. She became a mother of three. Her first born, Natalia Estella Rivas, was born in 1944 (passed away on January 8, 1997). Gloria Rivas was born in 1950 and Raymond Lus Rivas, Jr. followed in 1955. Virginia was a stay-at-home mom and wife taking care of her family. Her daughter, Natalia, gave her three granddaughters: Teresa Dolores Irvin (1964), Dolores Marie Irvin (1966) and Adrianna Humphrey (1970). The family continued to grow. Raymond, Jr. gave her another granddaughter, Laura Adeline Rivas (1993). Many years passed and Virginia was on her way to being a great grandmother. Granddaughter Teresa Irvin gave her three: Melissa Crystal Lucero (1982), Raymond Robert Flores (1989) and Nichole Marie Flores (1991). Dolores Irvin gave her Abel Renteria (1987). Adrianna Humphrey gave her three: Reuben Florencio (1986), Antonio Ureno (2000) and Joseph Ureno (2002). Virginia lived to see her great great grandchildren. Melissa Lucero gave her six: Natalia Nichole (1999), Angelica Olivia (2002), Elizah Crystal (2003), Luis Raymond (2004), Ralyssa Star (2007) and Betina Maria (2012-2013). Ruben Florencio gave her two: Alize (2013) and Reuben, Jr. (2014). Raymond Flores gave her one: Raymond Robert (2014). Nichole Flores gave her one: Malauni Teresa Tammy (2008). We are going to miss her dearly. She was the backbone of our family. She was the quiet one who kept things to herself; a very private woman who enjoyed music and loved to dance. She always had a loving heart for all of her family. During her last days she would always ask “how’s the weather out there?”
