Edgar Worrell, born in Brooklyn, NY and brought up in Barbados, started his life to become a custom tailor at 14 years of age as a tailor’s apprentice in Barbados. At 19 he joined the Royal Air Force and left Barbados to serve in London during World War 11. After the war ended he was hired by Huntsman & Sons, tailors to the Royal Family, as an apprentice tailor and began his journey to becoming a bespoke custom tailor. After 8 years he came back to New York City and worked as a custom tailor until he retired at age 85.
During his 70 year career, Edgar became one of the most highly regarded custom tailors in New York City for his expertise by his peers, co-workers and clients, making clothing for many rock stars, businessmen and sports figures and running designer’s workrooms that produced the clothing for many fashion shows.
He was a humble, caring man who never had a mean word to say about anyone who he knew. He lived a full, satisfying life full of professional accomplishment and will be sorely missed by Maryan, his partner and wife for 50 years, his children Gregory and Lynda and the many friends and family members whose life he touched during his 92 years.
Until we meet again……
