Atambir Singh Sahni was born on April 23rd, 1962 in the beautiful town of Isfahan, Iran. He spent his primary education at Bishop Cotton School in Shimla and Guru Nanak 5th Century in Mussori, India. He graduated from Dehli University, Khalsa College with Honors in History. He worked as an Information Technologist at the prestigious
Contemporary Services Corporation (CSC).
Atambir married his beautiful, beloved wife, the late, Ruchika Gandhoke, on February 9th, 1990 in Dehli, India.
In the same year, they immigrated to Montreal, Canada to begin their new life together.
On July 28th, 1991, they welcomed their precious daughter, Namrata Kaur Sahni.
Through the years, Atambir and Ruchika navigated the ups and downs of life together and built a wide network of friends in Quebec. Together, they opened the immensely popular Indian restaurant, India’s Oven, in the heart of Montreal. Atambir’s great love for cooking and socializing made this restaurant an exciting, eccentric, and loving destination for all families. He personally created the recipes for many of the menu items, putting his heart and soul in the very ingredients and foundation of India’s Oven.
Atambir cherished his relationships, especially with his siblings and although they lived in different parts of the world, they loved each other deeply. He spent his days laughing and dancing, leaving everyone with precious memories of his sheer joy and zest for life.
Atambir is survived by his daughter, Namrata Kaur Sahni, and son-in-law, Jatinderpal Singh Grewal.
These are a few words from his nephews:
Hulu was a kind, loving mama ji. Any moment I spent with him, I will always remember. He had a great ability to connect with anyone. He knew how to make people laugh and make great kabobs. I will always admire him for his ability to love and cherish all of his nieces and nephews.

Atambir “Hulu” Singh Sahni was one of the most loving people I have ever known. He was so full of life and continuously brought energy. He never had any hate in him and remained positive. Hulu Mamaji would constantly bring joy with his smile and comfort with his presence. He loved sports and would talk about the Montreal Canadiens all the time. He also enjoyed watching college football to bond with his incredible nephews and would take time on Saturdays to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide. As well as being one of the most caring people, Hulu Mamaji was a comedian as well and would tell the funniest jokes and stories. He was also an incredible cook and would make some of the best food I have ever eaten. Hulu Mamaji was a amazing individual who would always persevere when times got tough. He will always be loved and never forgotten.
