

Bennie Scott Nelms, age 89, passed away on July 13, 2026, in Longview, Texas. Mrs. Nelms was born on December 3, 1936, in Provencal, Louisiana, the fifth daughter of Henry Scott and Lola Perot Scott. She attended Provencal High School and eventually received an Associate’s Degree from Kilgore College.
Moving to Houston, Bennie married Bummy Page and gave birth to one daughter – Lola – and, after moving to Longview, another -- Helen Ti Laster, she married Walt Parks; together they shared their beautiful son, Wally. She spent the rest of her life in Longview, where she was an active member of several bowling leagues and eventually managed Oil Bowl Lanes. After many years, she married Wayne Hutson, who raised her children as an extremely devoted step-father and father figure.
Much later in life, Bennie worked for the state of Texas in their Longview welfare office and for Longview Independent School District as a teacher’s aide.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Nelms loved reading books, cooking, working in her beautiful flower beds, and visiting with her Louisiana relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her four sisters, her beloved son Wally Parks, her husband Wayne Hutson, her grandson Chris Cox, and her last husband C. L. Nelms. She is survived by her daughters Lola Beard (Don) and Ti Laster (John); grandsons Ryan Cox (Andrea), Drew Laster, and Reed Laster (Chloe); and her six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made to the Longview First Baptist community garden or the Longview Arboretum.
Visitation is at 10:00 Saturday followed by a small service at 11:00, both at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
