Bessie Keller Miller passed away on October 13, 2026, just nine days short of her 102nd birthday, in Belton, Texas. She was born October 22, 1924, in Baker, Louisiana, and she lived a full and happy life, with many friends and a devoted family. On December 16, 1945, Bessie married Howard Wayne Miller, and they shared nearly fifty years together until his passing in January of 1995.
Theirs was a home where no one was ever a stranger, where neighbors became friends, and where love was given hard and without reserve. Howard often told his sons, “if you grow up to be half the man your mother is, you’ll be a success.” A long-time member of Mobberly Baptist Church, she sang in the choir, spent years establishing and tending to the church library, and served as a Stephen Minister, offering comfort to those in crisis. Giving of herself came naturally; she even studied massage therapy, always searching for new ways to help others feel better.
Bessie lit up every room with her quick wit and gentle humor. She could turn anything into a song and was, by all accounts, the finest out loud reader of Dr. Seuss there ever was. She made the best Shrimp Imperial, conquered every crossword puzzle she met, played mahjong before it was cool, and traveled across America and parts of Canada with her best friend, Bobbie Pugh. She teased those she loved and made each person feel like the most important one in the room.
Stubborn once her mind was made up and smart as a whip, she treated everyone with the same love and compassion, and above all she will be remembered for her grace, which she shared with abandon.
Bessie leaves behind her sons, Stephen Wayne Miller and David Gregory Miller; her granddaughters, Jessica Davidson, Kelly Czapnik, Leslie Miller, Nicole Nicholas; her grandsons, Justin Miller and Darrin Nicholas; her great grandchildren, Madison, Christopher, Izabella, Kai, Piper, Dalton, Savannah, Alexis, and Emily; and her great great granddaughter, Brailynn. Her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy, and the summers spent in her home remain treasured memories. While we will miss her deeply, we find peace knowing she is in the presence of her Savior Jesus, completely healed and whole again. A private service will be held for the family.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone, honoring the joy Bessie found in serving others.
