Edwin Gene Carter

Edwin Gene Carter, 86, of Longview, TX , passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 in Gilmer. He was born August 8, 1928 in Bluefield WV to Acie and Lillian Carter. After graduating from high school, he met Dorothy May Patterson and they were married September 3, 1949 in Tazewell, Virginia. Mr. Carter worked much of his life for the railroad, worked his way up the ladder, becoming a foreman for the Norfolk and Western Railway. Later in his life, he and his family moved to Longview, where he retired from LeTourneau.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Longview; daughters: Mary Elaine Carter of Longview, Lynn Gray and her husband Eric of Gilmer; grandchildren: Michael Haught of Longview, Mandi Young and her husband Chris of Gilmer, Mason Haught of Gilmer, Connor Gray of Gilmer, Shelbi Kalinec and her husband Clint of Saginaw, TX and great grandson: Carter Young of Gilmer. He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home, 5000 West Harrison Road, Longview, TX with Dr. James Pierce, Dr. John Hatch, and Eric Gray officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made to the Gregg County Association for Retarded Citizens, 601 West Boyd Street, Longview, TX 75601.
