Forrest Gene Lain, 78, of Longview, TX passed away April 9, 2015 in Madill, Oklahoma. Forrest was born March 23, 1937 in Cordell, OK to Charles and Sylvia Lain. After graduating high school, he joined the Air Force and came back to Texas to go to work for Texas Instruments in the late 1950’s. Forrest worked for TI until September 1, 1991, when he and his secretary both retired at the same time. While at TI, Forrest went from working as a field tech for a number of years, to becoming the Manager over Human Resources for the Avionics Dept. This, of course, required that he earn his degree, which he did at night at a local college. When he became the Human Resources Manager, this required he and Pat move to the TI location in McKinney, which they did in 1984. He was widely recognized as an expert in all aspects of the Human Resources Dept. He loved his job, he did it well, and took it very seriously. During his time at TI, he supported key programs for antisubmarine warfare, tactical Air Force operations, and airport surveillance radars. Forrest was a highly respected individual and like by all that met him. After retiring in 1991, he was able to spend half of his time at Lake Fork and half of his time at Cloudcroft, NM and do what he loved, to fish, camp and enjoy life. He also made time, during his retirement, to be a Reserve Officer for the Richardson Police Department. On September 16, 2004, he married his dancing partner, Mary Darby, and they were able to do what he loved to do, go RVing, camping near lakes to be able to fish and to find places where they could dance.
Forrest is survived by his wife: Mary Darby Lain of Longview; son: Lance Lain and his wife, Teresa of Garland; granddaughter: Shelby Lain of Garland; brothers: Charles Lain and his wife Christine of Burneyville, OK, and Gerald Lain and his wife Kathy of Gunnison, CO; sister-in-law: Norma Lou Lain of Marietta, OK; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Royce (Wahoo) Lain.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Summerfield United Methodist Church, 7078 Tryon Road, Longview, TX 75605, with Rev. Del Covington officiating. The family would like everyone to stay just after the services for a time of visitation and celebration of Forrest’s life with them. Pallbearers will be: Lance Lain, Charles Ed Lain, Buddy Allen, Mike Reeves, Buddy Lange, and Dave Pederson. Honorary Pallbearers will be his friends and coworkers from Texas Instruments as well as Russ Logan, Bob Hinkle, Joe Kuban, and Pat Harrison.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made in his name to Summerfield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 65, Judson, TX 75660 or to the charity of your choice.
