Gisela Doris Barnes

Gisela (Gila) D. Barnes, a long time resident of the Longview area, passed away peacefully Thursday the 19th of February at Clairmont Longview. Gila was the daughter of Hans H. and Gisela C. Hennecke.

Gila was born in 1931 in Saginaw, MI. She attended Carleton College and Michigan State University. She had an interesting and diverse career as an executive secretary with oil field service companies in Houston, Texas and the Corps of Engineers on the island of Guam.

Gila’s interests included cooking, reading, music, photography, travel, and needlework. She loved the country life in Wood County where she spent most of her retirement years. Her smile was always welcoming and will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Bert Barnes of Longview Texas, Melissa (daughter) and husband Larry Hodge, John (son) and wife Becky Connor, grandchildren Zachary Hodson, Heather and John Austin Connor, Shannon Cox, Shelby Salter, and Josh Cox, great grandchildren Kayden Salter, Jasiah and Jordan Cox, her brother Hans and wife Carol Hennecke, nephew Mark Hennecke, niece Lynn Fischbeck and great-niece Kaylin Fischbeck.

A memorial service for Gisela Barnes will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home on Thursday the 26th of February at 2:00pm.
