Henry H. Ramke
June 1, 1936 – August 8, 2019
Henry H. Ramke, 83, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019 in Kilgore. Henry was born June 1, 1936 in Abbeville, Louisiana to Henry Hermann Ramke, Sr. and Helen Morgan Ramke. Henry enjoyed many hobbies and talents including woodworking, watercolor painting, falconry, antique guns and tools, and rock mining and collecting. Before attending the school of architecture at Louisiana State University, Henry worked at a boat store piloting tug boats in Baton Rouge. This is where his love of boat restoration and piloting boats began. He had the honor and experience of piloting the last commercial steamship on the Mississippi River. Henry was an architect in Louisiana and Texas and later served as campus architect for the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Henry even built three homes, remodeled numerous others, and built a Cobra Kit Car! He literally was a jack of all trades; there was little he couldn’t do. Henry will be missed tremendously by all whose lives he touched. Henry is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Marlene Fox and Anna Marie Latour. He is survived by his loving wife, Carole Ramke of Kilgore; children, Ryan Stephens Ramke (Stacey) of Erath, LA and Eric Diedrich Ramke (Tina) of Wylie, TX; grandchildren, Allie, Amber, Austin (Haylee), Blake, Halie, and Tyler; sister, Claudia Bennett; and many other friends and family who loved him dearly.
