Joseph Foster

Joe spent his youth in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, where he met his group of lifelong friends and graduated from Sunset High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 to 1974. Following his military service, he moved to East Texas, where he began a career in the oil field. He later married Lea Johnson, and they welcomed their daughter and son.

A man of strong work ethic and dedication, Joe built a distinguished career at Halliburton, where he worked faithfully for many years—including a time overseas in Algeria—until his retirement. Joe was known for his outgoing personality; he never met a stranger and always had a joke ready. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending his time visiting friends, working outdoors, and creating lasting memories with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Foster of Longview; his cherished granddaughter, Kinlee; his cousin, Sally Crabtree of Houston; and many other family members and friends whom he loved deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles “Chuck” Foster; and his infant son, Joseph Layne Foster.

A memorial service and celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 29 at Lakeview Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Avir of Jefferson and the dedicated nurses of Hospice Plus for their daily, compassionate care and support during his final days. They would also like to extend a special thank you to his caretaker, Mildred, for her exceptional kindness.
