LONGVIEW — Melba Alford Black went home to be with the Lord on April 27, 2014. Born on August 2, 1920, in Spring Hill, Ark., she was the daughter of E.H. and Verna Alford and grew up in Stephens, Ark. After working in an ammunition plant during World War II, she married returning soldier Basil Black from McNeil, Ark., and together they raised three children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; and her husband of 32 years, Basil Black.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Dennis Black, formerly of Gladewater, Texas, Donald Black, formerly of Longview, Texas, and Mary Black Martinson and husband, Steven, of Mabank, Texas.
She is also survived by her brother, Harold Alford of Magnolia, Ark.; a grandson, Donald Black Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Alexis and Cameron Black.
A viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. today, April 29, 2014, at Lakeview Funeral Home. Burial services will be May 1, 2014, in Arkansas.
