Philip Eugene Happel

Philip graduated from Paschal High School in Ft. Worth in 1948. He attended Arlington Community College for two years. On May 27, 1950 he married Sarah Elizabeth Lewis and they spent 65 wonderful years together. They moved to Austin and he attended the University of Texas and graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was employed by Sun Oil Company for thirty five years. Life was very interesting as they were moved several times, then back to Longview in 1968. Both daughters were able to graduate from Pine Tree High School.

Phil and Sarah moved to Lake Cherokee in 1975 and lived there for twenty nine years. After retirement, Phil became a volunteer for Good Shepherd Medical Center, where he was beloved by all and loved his job. He was always active in his church and enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Debra Lynn Koon, son in law Bruce Fisher; grandson Kelsey Koon and wife Lindsey all of Longview; grandson James Koon, and great grandson Jamie Koon of Hallsville. He is also survived by his sister Dena Barker and brother Jim Happel of Houston, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Phil was preceded in death by his wife Sarah, his daughter Ann Fisher, and son in law Eddie Koon.

A visitation will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home on Monday, January 9, from 6-8pm.

A memorial service will be held at Winterfield United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 10 at 11am.
